Area: villages of Jerusalem including Lifta, Shuafat, Abu Dis, Ein Karem, Al-Malha, Beit Hanina and others.
This thobe is made of 3 colors of velvet; black, burgundy and olive green, and has a cotton or silky texture. It is embroidered using a stitch called ‘Al-Tahrira’ in vertical strips called ‘Al Orouq’ which means branches in Arabic. The threads used in embroidery are either thick silk or cotton combined with metallic threads for a nice shine, of which the best are the gilded threads. The chest area is rich in embroidery, whereas the sleeves and the lower back hem called ‘Al-Radfa’ are slightly embroidered.
The belt and the shawl are embroidered on a piece of velvet with the same patterns as the dress
