Area: Beit Dajan village- Jaffa
Made of black cotton fabric, this thobe is distinguished for the rich embroidery on the sides of it called “Banayeq”, the chest panel, the sleeves and the lower back hem called “Al-Shinyar”. Embroidery is done using silk threads that are mainly red with some other bold colors.
What distinguishes this thobe too is the use of various types of stitches and fabric in the making of it. We can see the maroon velvet fabric as the base for the embroidery which is done using thick silk threads (reed) and “Al-Tahriri” thread in a stitch also called “Al-Tahriri” named after the thread. These velvet-base embroidery patches are visible at the center of the thobe.
The sleeves however are embroidered on silk fabric using colorful reed and “Tahriri” threads, in a stitch called “Al-Rasheq” only, whereas the cross stitch is absent from this pattern.
The belt is maroon velvet, embroidered in the same patterns as the thobe
The shawl is off-white adorned with an embroidered piece of maroon velvet fabric, in the same patterns as the thobe as well.
