Made of cotton and polyester fabric with a silky touch called “Al-Saya”, this thobe was famous in the past for its special silk fabric known as “Ikat” which is a type of fabric mainly woven in several cities in Syria especially in Aleppo. The ikat fabric is distinguished by its many colors such as orange, yellow and violet.
This outfit consists of:
- Al-Jalaya: the main piece of the thobe, open from the front and can be closed from the waist line with buttons made of silk threads.
- A black blouse: worn underneath Al-Jalaya, and adorned on the chest with colorful fabric similar to the colors of Al-Jalaya
- Black trousers: with the lower parts of it decorated in colored fabric similar to the ones on the blouse.
The belt’s color goes with the colors of Al-Jalaya
The shawl is off-white decorated with fabric similar in color to that of Al-Jalaya
